Diana Thater
ARTIST
Diana Thater, born in 1962 in San Francisco, lives and works in Los Angeles.

For more then ten years Diana Thater has been creating video installations where images in motion create complex spatial dimensions in dialogue with their enclosing architecture. A recurring theme in her work is the relationship between Man and Nature. Images of nature, presented as video projections or shown on monitors, are recontextualized within preexisting architectural environments. In all her projects Thater plays with the physical dimension of the exhibition space, while at the same time exposing the tricks of technology to the viewer. Such effects may be as simple as colored gels applied to windows and other light sources, or as complex as syncronized video projections.

Diana Thater's work is internationally acclaimed. She has taken part in prestigious exhibitions: Whitney Biennial, New York (1995-1997); Kunsthalle of Basel (1996); Sculpture Projects, Munster (1997); MOMA, New York (1998); Louisiana Museum at Humblebaek, Denmark (1997); Castello di Rivoli (1998); Carnegie International, Pittsburgh (1999-2000); Vienna Secession (2000); MOCA, Los Angeles; DIA Center for the Arts, New York (2001-2003); Nationalgalerie im Hamburger Bahnhof, Berlin (2004); Palazzo delle Papesse Centro Arte Contemporanea, Siena (2005); Whitney Biennial, New York (2006); San Diego Museum of Contemporary Art, La Jolla (2007); The J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles (2008).
