Renée Green
ARTIST
Renée Green, born in 1959 in Cleveland, lives and works between San Francisco and New York.

Renée Green conceives of her exhibitions as pauses for reflection. The issues addressed in her work often extend beyond the traditional realms of art, approching such disciplines as cinematic theory, music historyn and politics. Her installations, filled with books, photos, sounds, historical and designer objects, are investigations in which stratified themes are brought together, reflecting the artist's subjective narrative voice. Her research strategies, like those of Conceptual Art, focus upon linguistic systems, to produce a dense network of associations, freely circulating between the present, the past and an imaginary future.

Renée Green is an internationally renowned artist. Her works have been seen in important shows in spaces including XLV Venice Biennial; Whitney Biennial; MOCA, Los Angeles (1993); FRI-ART Centre d'Art Contemporain Kunsthalle, Fribourg; De Appel, Amsterdam (1996); Biennial of Johannesburg; Biennial of Korea (1997); Secession, Vienna (1999); Fundaciò Antoni Tapies, Barcelona (2000); Portikus, Frankfurt; Centre Georges Pompidou, Paris; MACBA, Barcelona; Documenta XI, Kassel (2002); UCLA Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; Kunstahlle Wien, Vienna (2003); Kuenstlerhaus, Vienna (2004); Kunstraum Innsbruck (2005); Neuberger Museum of Art, New York; Contemporary Arts Museum, Houston (2006); 10th Istanbul Biennial; MART, Rovereto (2007); Jeu de Paume, Paris; Manifesta 7, Trento Rovereto and Bolzano (2008).
