Sam Durant, born in 1961 in Seattle, lives and works in Los Angeles.

The work of sam Durant investigates utopia and its failure in relation to protest and countercultures movements in American political history. Through the use of a great variety of media, his work rather then succumbing to a fascination with the original sources generates an aestethic in which elements of high and low culture coexist. Composing his own language, he brings out the contradictions of modernism reassembling them in a dissonant polyphny of forms.

Il lavoro di Sam Durant è un’indagine sull’utopia e il suo fallimento, in relazione ai movimenti di protesta e di controcultura che attraversano la storia politica americana. Attraverso l’utilizzo di svariati media, la sua opera non soccombe alla fascinazione delle fonti originali ma genera invece una propria estetica in cui elementi della cultura e della cultura bassa. Elaborando e componendo il proprio linguaggio, Durant fa emergere le contraddizioni del modernismo ricomponendole in una dissonante polifonia di forme.
